Which armor film can withstand winter frosts? (Finland test 2026)
Finnish winters are merciless. Freezing temperatures of -5°C, -15°C or even -25°C. That's when weaker armor films start to harden, lose adhesion and air bubbles appear at the edges. We tested which screen protectors can actually withstand Finnish conditions.
Why is frost resistance important?
Cold makes the films stiffer. When the phone warms up quickly indoors, the film will live and the adhesion can come off. The cheapest films lose their adhesive at -5°C.
1. Hydrogel – the best choice for cold conditions
The hydrogel does not harden in the cold. It retains its flexibility down to -25°C, which is why it fits the screen better and recovers its shape after impact. Arctic Shield hydrogel is also made in Finland , making it a reliable option for the north.
2. Bulletproof glass – durable, but dependent on adhesive
Bulletproof glass provides the best protection against impacts, but its frost resistance depends on the quality of the glue. Cheap edge-glued glass easily comes off in the Finnish winter. Full glue models cope better, but do not withstand the frost resistance of hydrogel.
3. What did the test show?
- Cheap films : peeled off at the edges at -8 °C
- Basic bulletproof glasses : survived down to -12 °C
- High-quality full glue glass : stayed closed down to -18 °C
- Arctic Shield hydrogel : no shedding in –25 °C test
Conclusion
If you want a screen protector that won't let you down in the Finnish winter, choose hydrogel or high-quality full glue glass. Forget about edge-glue-only models.
